Romania Video
In one of my SFL classes today, we watched a video about the orphanages in Romania. This movie was very eye-opening for me. When I'd previously heard about the bad conditions of the orphanages, I never realized just how bad they really are. For example, Dr. Nelson told our class that there are over 100,000 abandoned children in Romania (I'm not sure of the exact number...I just know it was HUGE). The children barely get any human interactions. Anyway, after watching the movie, I felt sick. I felt like there was nothing I could do to change this situation. I felt so helpless! Even if I personally went over, there are still thousands of other children who are still those conditions, without any form of attachments. It was amazing how much that piece of media affected me. For anyone who reads this blog, do you know if you're allowed to go to Romania if you're graduated?

I went to Romania in Fall of 2008. I'm pretty sure that you can't go if you're not a student (unless you're married and your spouse is a student and signs up for the program). However, I could be wrong, especially since the Romania program has been struggling to get students to sign up. No one even went last semester, which is really sad.
ReplyDeleteI never even saw the video, just saw a flier and started going to the meetings. It was an awesome experience and I'm so glad I got to go.
oh this movie breaks my heart every time i watch it :( it makes me want to drop everything in my life to go help them!! it also reminds me of how bless we all are..
ReplyDeleteI was in Dr. Nelson's class too and watching it just made my heart ache. I am in the same boat though: I graduate in April. My husband is already graduated so it is sad that we won't get the chance to go. But I'm sure we can look for ways to help from here. I think it is just a matter of getting out of personal distress and acting on it, which can be hard for me sometimes.
